Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy
At Olympic Park Sports Medicine Centre, we offer Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) injections as part of our advanced treatment options for joint and soft tissue injuries. PRP therapy uses your body’s own healing cells to repair damaged tissue, reduce pain, and support long-term recovery.
This treatment is commonly used for:
- Persistent tendon problems (like tennis elbow or Achilles issues)
- Muscle tears or ligament strains
- Mild to moderate osteoarthritis
- Injuries that haven’t responded to standard rehab or physiotherapy
The process involves taking a small sample of your blood, processing it to concentrate the platelets—rich in growth and healing factors—and injecting it into the affected area. The entire appointment takes around 45 minutes and is carried out by one of our experienced Sport and Exercise Physicians.
Before having PRP treatment, you’ll attend a pre-treatment consultation or two with your doctor. These sessions are short, one-on-one appointments that allow us to assess your condition, confirm whether PRP is appropriate, and explain what to expect from treatment and recovery.
After your injection, we’ll support you with a personalised rehabilitation plan to help maximise results and guide your return to activity. Some people feel improvement within a few weeks, while others may need additional sessions depending on the nature of the injury and healing response.
PRP injections are not covered by Medicare, but a referral from your GP or specialist can help you claim the maximum rebate for your initial consultation. Our team is happy to discuss the process with you when booking.
