Dr Hussain Khan is passionate about exercise and sports medicine with focus on returning patients to their physical activity goals and promoting healthy active lifestyles.He has valuable medical experience in diverse sporting environments including cricket, soccer, rugby league, Australian rules football, hockey and endurance running events.He is currently the head doctor of Melbourne Victory A-league men’s team and the team doctor of Hawthorn AFL team. He has also worked as the team doctor of the Australian Cricket men’s team, including multiple overseas tours.In addition to these clinical experiences, Dr Hussain Khan has completed a PhD in medical sciences with a focus on early diagnosis and management of knee osteoarthritis.

He is currently involved in several research projects examining the effects of physical activity on knee osteoarthritis in elite athletes and in general community members. He is also conducting multiple clinical trials examining the safety and efficacy of different pharmacological agents for management of osteoarthritis. His work has been presented at several International conferences and published in renowned peer-reviewed journals. He has won several awards for his work including the International Osteoarthritis Research Society Young Researcher scholarship in 2017 and the Avant Mutual Doctors in Training Research award in 2020.Dr Hussain Khan has a keen interest in helping patients manage chronic diseases with exercise medicine. He can help patients manage metabolic diseases such as obesity, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes through physical activity and help them live longer and healthier lives.

Dr Jacob Jewson has followed his passion for sport and exercise medicine since graduating from his medical degree in 2015. While working as a junior doctor at the Alfred Hospital, Jacob also worked for the Western Bulldogs AFLW and Footscray VFL teams. In 2019, he moved to Sydney for his first year of registrar training and worked in a variety of sports, including touring with the Young Socceroos

Jacob moved back to Melbourne in 2020, after sorely missing footy for 12 months, and started working with the Demons in the AFL in 2021.Jacob was a founding member of the Sport and Exercise Medicine Students’ Association and has completed an honours degree in medical science where he investigated the relationship between metabolic disease and musculoskeletal pain, an area which he remains very interested in. He continues to be involved in various research projects including the use of smartphone technologies to detect arrhythmias in athletes.Jacob is keen to help all patients of all abilities achieve their goals, whether it be through managing acute or chronic injuries to facilitate sport and exercise, or through using exercise as prevention/treatment of chronic disease.

Neels graduated with a degree in medicine from the university of the Free State, South Africa in 1997 before relocating to Australia in 2003.He commenced specialist training as a Sports and Exercise Physician at the Brisbane Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Centre and susbsequently at Olympic Park Sports Medicine Centre in Melbourne.

Tim has been working full-time in this field for the last 25years and achieved Fellowship of the ACSP in 2004.Given his competitive involvement in both Track and Field and Asutralian Rules Football,Tim has a broad understanding of injuries concerned with these sports.Further research has been undertaken in the study of lower limb compartment syndrome,a common condition seen in runners.

This extended to the completion in 2006 of a Masters Degree with the Centre for Health, Exercise and Sports Medicine(CHESM) at the University of Melbourne.Tim was Chief Medical Officer to Athletics Australia from 2003 until 2008,being Team Doctor to National Teams for two Olympic campaigns, two World Championships and the Melbourne Commonwealth Games.During his tenure he also served on the Athletics Australia Anti Doping Commission.Many professional highlights occurred during his time with Athletics Australia, especially seeing athletes reach and exceed their sporting potential on the world stage. In 2008 he became Medical Officer to the St Kilda Football Club, a position he continues in currently as Chief Medical Officer. Tim enjoys consulting with members of the public who wish to pursue their recreational sporting endeavours, working towards establishing a firm diagnosis and management plan for all manner of injury types.He recognises the importance of maintaining an exercise program for both physical and psychological benefits.Tim enjoys interacting with his colleagues in the multidisciplinary setting that OPSMC offers, along with contributing towards the supervision and education of the clinic's registrars.

Dr Sam Harkin is a specialist Sport and Exercise Medicine Physician with a breadth of experience managing injury and illness associated with exercise at all levels. Sam is passionate about helping his patients maintain an active lifestyle and pursue their sporting dreams.

Sam is a fellow of the Australasian College of Sport and Exercise Physicians (ACSEP). He holds a Diploma in Sports Medicine from the International Olympic Committee, and current research interests include the clinical assessment of cardiorespiratory fitness and physical function. He presents regularly on topics including the clinical management of concussion; interventions for osteoarthritis and bone stress injuries. Sam is the AFL club doctor for the Collingwood Football Club. He has previously served as the AFLW club doctor and VFL doctor at Collingwood. His other elite sporting experience includes work with British Athletics, the Young Matildas, Australian Open Tennis, FINA World Swimming Championships (25m), and A-League match day coverage amongst others. Originally from Bendigo, Sam’s early career saw him qualify in Podiatry with honours and work as a podiatrist between 2009 and 2015. Sam graduated from the ANU in Medicine and Surgery in 2015. He completed his residency at hospitals across Melbourne and country Victoria. Outside of work is a self-described mediocre sportsman, enjoying golf, cricket, football of all codes, and cycling. Dr Krishant Naidu is a highly experienced Sports and Exercise Physician. He is passionate about helping people of all ages and sporting backgrounds achieve their best health and fitness outcomes.Krishants’ professional interests include management of osteoarthritis, tendonopathy, adhesive capsulitis (frozen shoulder) and exercise associated leg pain. He has completed advanced training in diagnostic and therapeutic ultrasound and performs his own ultrasound guided procedures including joint injections,

shoulder hydrodilatations and compartment pressure testing. He has undertaken numerous research studiesincluding a randomised clinical trial for treatment of chronic common extensor tendinopathy (tennis elbow),atraumatic compartment syndrome and shoulder injuries in cricket. Krishant is currently involved in research projects on anterior knee pain and knee osteoarthritis. Krishant worked as the Senior Team Doctor to Melbourne Victory Football Club for 9 years. He has also been a team Doctor with Melbourne Storm Rugby League and Collingwood Football Club VFL team. He has also worked with Athletics Australia’s Youth Development Program. Krishant is an active member of the Australasian College of Sport and Exercise Physicians (ASCEP). He holds multiple positions and was the inaugural Chair of the Indigenous Health Advisory Committee. He sits on the ASCEP Continuing Professional Development Committee, as well as the Selection Committee for the FASCEP Training Program. Krishant became a Fellow of the Australasian College of Sports and Exercise Physicians in 2015 after completing his Fellowship training in Melbourne. Prior to becoming a Fellow of the FASCEP, Krish gained invaluable experience as an Orthopaedic Registrar for several years at Northern and Western Health. He also completed his Basic Surgical Training through the Royal Australasian College of Surgery. He undertook his hospital clinical training through Austin and Northern Health. He attained his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery at the University of Melbourne in 2002.Krishant enjoys a love of all sport, in particular soccer, golf, tennis, athletics, cricket and hockey. Having grown up in Fiji, he has a love of Rugby and is a strong advocate for promoting Indigenous participation in sporting codes, as well as within the Sports and Exercise Physician Training Program. Dr James Ooi carved a career in sports and exercise medicine through a passion for applying the principles of elite healthcare for the general public. James was granted the Monash University Scholarship for Excellence in recognition of academic achievement. After graduating with honours in 2016, he trained at The Alfred Hospital, culminating in his role as trauma registrar for the state service.

During this time, James undertook further training including advanced musculoskeletal ultrasound,therapeutic injections and the Graduate Diploma in Surgical Anatomy. He was awarded for outstanding performance in Orthopaedics. James enjoys maintaining a broad skillset, continuing to assist orthopaedic surgeries, whilst being actively involved across numerous elite sports. It is an ardent passion for improved quality-of-life and functional health outcomes that guides James’ balanced holistic approach to optimising physical function. James also works with elite athletes at the Victorian Institute of Sport. He is the current Chief Medical Officer for The Combat Institute of Australia (CombatAUS). James has a personal background in bodyweight fitness, strength and conditioning. Outside of work, you are likely to find James savouring a coffee whilst devouring NBA stats or hanging out at/on the (pull-up) bar.

Dr David Long completed his medical degree at the University of Melbourne in 2006. After working and training in the field of critical care and emergency medicine for nearly 10 years David decided to retrain in sport and exercise medicine and was awarded his fellowship of the Australasian College of Sport and Exercise Physicians in 2021.

In addition to his clinic-based practice, David has more than 10 years experience as a team physician at elite level VFL/AFL clubs and for 6 years at elite level rugby union (Super Rugby). He has also provided medical coverage for a variety of other sporting codes including gymnastics, motor cross, cycling, and ultramarathon to name a few. David is the current Chief Medical Officer with the Geelong Football Club. His special interests include acute injury management and the biomechanical basis of recurrent soft tissue injury in all sports. David also has a background in research having completed a Bachelor of Science with honours in anatomy and neuroscience and worked in neuroscience and diabetes research for 5 years. When not at work he enjoys time with his young children and continued involvement in musical endeavours as a compliment to his medical career.

Andrew Jowett realized at a young age that despite his obsession with sport and diverse sporting interests that he was never destined for a career as a sportsman. Throughout his medical training however he maintained his links and interests in sport to develop his expertise combining both passions. This culminated in the fabulous adventure that was the World Cup in Germany 2006 as the Socceroos national team doctor.

On a daily basis Andrew wishes to assist members of the general public achieve their sporting, health andfitness goals by drawing upon his expertise at the elite level as well as his personal sporting mediocrity!Andrew has special interests in sports such as all football codes, baseball and throwing sports as well as musculoskeletal problems such as exercise-induced leg pain, groin pain, tendon problems and shoulder pain.His master’s research was into compartment syndrome and he continues to investigate exertional leg pain.Andrew is passionate about Olympic Park Sports Medicine Centre and the concept of multidisciplinary sports medicine. He has developed his role at the clinic to take on the position of clinic director to further enhance Olympic Park Sports Medicine Centre as a leading provider of sports medicine services, education and training. Andrew completed 14 seasons as a doctor with Collingwood FC in 2009. He was fortunate enough to maintain his involvement in elite teams by joining the Hawthorn FC medical team in 2012 and provides backup medical support 3 premierships later! He served as team doctor for the Australian Socceroos from 1996-2006, continued to advise FFA on medical matters including the medical structure of the A-League before joining Melbourne Victory as medical director in 2014. He led the accreditation in 2013 of Olympic Park Sports Medicine Centre as Australia’s only FIFA Medical Centre of Excellence as part of a worldwide chain of 32 centres.Andrew is a Fellow of the Australasian College of Sports Physicians as well as holding affiliations to Sports Medicine Australia and AFL Medical Officers Associations both as a member and on the executive. Andrew was appointed Chief Medical Officer for the Football Federation of Victoria (FFV) in 2013 and Chairman of Sports Medicine Australia in 2015. He is an accredited FIFA Medical Officer and provided leadership at the 2023 FIFA Womens World Cup, Australia. He is currently Oceania Representative on the Executive of the International Federation of Sports Medicine (FIMS).
