Ben Holland has been a podiatrist since 1998. He has been working at the elite level across many sporting teams including the North Melbourne and Collingwood Football Clubs and Tennis Victoria. Playing and working in the elite professional sports arena for 20 years, Ben has developed his skills as a sports podiatrist under the guidance of some of the most respected sports clinicians in the country which has shaped his treatment and rehabilitation philosophies.
He adopts a global approach to injury with treatment plans embracing the multidisciplinary setting present at OPSMC. He treats clients of all ages and abilities including children to grandparents, professional athletes to amateurs all wanting to achieve their goals. Ben is interested specifically in heel pain and plantar fascia treatment, rehab and prevention. Shin pain, Achilles pain, footwear and orthotic prescription are some of the issues he regularly deals with clinically. He attributes his understanding of the injured athlete to his years of treating athletes as well as the insight he gained during his sporting career.
A keen sports participant himself, he recently retired from 13 years of AFL football for the Melbourne and Richmond football clubs, where he learnt first-hand about treatments and rehabilitation for many sporting injuries.
Post football he has remained fit, taking up long distance running. Ben completed his first 42km Marathon in New York 2011, followed by Paris Marathon in 2013 & several half marathons, so understands the challenges of hitting the “wall,” session planning and the footwear requirements essential to the endurance athlete. Tennis and golf also keep him sane.
Ben complements his practical skills by regularly attending Podiatry and Sports Medicine conferences which ensure he is up to speed with the ever-changing sports medicine world.
